David Deacon currently serves as Director of Operations at the University of Louisville School of Music. David teaches first-year experience courses, serves as advisor for the School of Music Living-Learning Community and Peer Mentors, and provides unit-level administrative support.

As a freelance artist, David maintains an active schedule performing a variety of engagements throughout the year in the Louisville metropolitan area and southeast United States. He has had the privilege to perform with Al Chez, Doc Severinsen, Ndugu Chancler, 3 Faces of the King, the Owensboro Symphony, Orchestra Kentucky – Bowling Green, and the Kentucky Opera. In addition, David has performed at numerous festivals and conferences including the National Trumpet Competition, Trumpet Festival of the Southeast, College Band Directors National Association Southern Division Conference, The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Kentucky Music Educators Conference, and College Music Society National Conference. David has also performed internationally at the ÓperaMaya International Music Festival (Cancún, Mexico) and the Orvieto Musica Chamber Music Festival (Orvieto, Italy).

Outside of the University of Louisville and performing, David works with band programs throughout the region. He has been a trumpet and brass instructor for the Lowndes High “Georgia Bridgemen” Marching Band in Valdosta, Georgia for the past ten years, and he has been an instructor with the Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi Division of the Salvation Army Summer Music Conservatory. In addition, he has taught applied lessons and coached brass sections at schools in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, and Kentucky.

David holds a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Louisville and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Troy University. David is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Performing Arts Medicine Association.
