BIO

I am a music theorist with expertise in tonal analysis, Baroque music (particularly J. S. Bach), keyboard music of the 17th through 20th centuries, musical form, and analytical methodology. My articles, appearing in journals such as Music Theory SpectrumJournal of Music Theory, and BACH: The Journal of the Riemenschneider Bach Institute, have received multiple awards from national scholarly societies. I hold degrees from Northwestern University, the University of Minnesota, and Yale University, and have additionally taught at Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music. At the University of Louisville, I teach in the music theory and musicianship core curriculum as well as offering regular graduate courses on Schenkerian analysis, chromatic harmony and analysis, and special topics such as rotational form and the analysis of opera.
