Our laboratory studies the principles of adaptive macrophage competence, which describes how macrophages acquire, sustain, and remodel their functional capacity in response to changing environments and previous cellular encounters. We seek to understand how these remarkable immune cells execute cellular clearance, recover from the energetic demands of engulfment, adapt to prior experiences, and coordinate immune homeostasis across tissues.

By integrating quantitative cell biology, immunology, metabolism, and in vivo physiology, we aim to establish a unifying framework for understanding how macrophage history shapes future behavior. Our long-term goal is to uncover fundamental principles of macrophage biology that advance our understanding of development, inflammation, tissue repair, and disease.
