Dr. Adolfo Ramirez-Zamora is a nationally and internationally recognized neurologist and leader in neurology, movement disorders and neuromodulation. He serves as Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Louisville, where he leads clinical, educational, and research initiatives focused on advancing brain health across Kentucky and beyond. Dr. Ramirez-Zamora is fellowship-trained in movement disorders and deep brain stimulation (DBS), with specialized expertise in Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, cerebellar ataxias, and complex neurodegenerative conditions. His work bridges clinical excellence and translational neuroscience, with a focus on understanding neural network dysfunction and developing innovative neuromodulation strategies and implementing experimental therapeutics  to improve patient outcomes. Throughout his career, Dr. Ramirez-Zamora has been at the forefront of advancing DBS technologies, including adaptive and directional stimulation, biomarker-driven programming, and network-based therapeutic approaches. His research integrates clinical phenotyping, neurophysiology, and computational tools to refine patient-specific treatment strategies. He has contributed to multiple multi-center clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies and has secured funding from national foundations and industry collaborators. Dr. Ramirez-Zamora has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences. His work has been presented at major scientific meetings across North America, Latin America, and Europe.  In addition to his academic work, Dr. Ramirez-Zamora serves in leadership roles within national and international professional societies and contributes to guideline development, educational programming, and scientific review panels.
