BIO
I am the Interim Department Chair and an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville. I also serve as a Faculty Member with the Southern Police Institute (SPI), where I direct the SPI Center for Training Research and Innovative Simulation (SPI TRAINS).
My research focuses on police investigations, decision-making, training, and law enforcement responses to individuals affected by trauma. Through my work, I partner with police agencies to test innovative practices, evaluate programs, improve training, and develop realistic, scenario-based exercises that prepare officers for the complex challenges they encounter in the field.
My scholarship is applied and policy-oriented, with a focus on generating evidence that agencies can use to improve performance, strengthen community interactions, and enhance public safety outcomes. This work has been supported by the National Institute of Justice, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
