Dr. Brittney Corniel graduated with her BSN from the University of Louisville School of Nursing in 2017 as the Dean's Most Outstanding Graduate. She then began her career as a labor and delivery nurse at the University of Louisville Hospital. During her time there, she became a prenatal class educator, joined the new hire interview team and precepted several nursing students. In 2021, Dr. Corniel graduated from UofL with her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. She received the Dean's Award of Excellence, the Peer Award for Excellence and delivered the student address at the graduation ceremony. She was also awarded the Commonwealth Credit Union Outstanding Graduate and Professional Student Award which is given to the most distinguished graduate student across all schools at the University of Louisville. 

 

Dr. Corniel is now working as a Family Nurse Practitioner with the University of Louisville Physicians Family Medicine Department. She is an Assistant Professor at the UofL School of Nursing teaching Advanced Pathophysiology to Master's and Doctoral students. She is the Clinical Specialty Track Coordinator for the Family Nurse Practitoner Track. She is the Faculty Advisor for the Graduate Student Nursing Council, an organization that she created in her first year in the DNP program and would go on to preside as president for 3 years. Dr. Corniel was one of 25 faculty members in the state of Kentucky selected to participate in the 2025-2026 Kentucky Council on Post-Secondary Education Faculty Leadership Academy. She now serves as a Faculty Coach for the Academy. Dr. Corniel also serves as a board member for the Kentucky Association of Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Midwives. 

 

Dr. Corniel was awarded the 2024 Advanced Practice Clinican and Educator of the Year award from the KYANNA Black Nurses Association. In 2026, Dr. Corniel was awarded the Outstanding Gradaute Faculty Award at the UofL School of Nursing.
