TEACHING & MENTORING
Medical education is at the core of Dr. Richardson's academic identity. As Director of the Family Medicine Clerkship, she oversees curriculum development and delivery for all third-year medical students rotating through family medicine, coordinating core lectures, structured feedback, and fourth-year elective placements. As Associate Program Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship accredited for two fellows per year — she coordinates the weekly didactic curriculum, conducts quarterly Individual Education Plan meetings with each fellow, and reviews applications and interviews candidates annually. The fellowship has achieved a 100% first-attempt board pass rate under her co-directorship. Dr. Richardson also serves as Discipline Lead for the Summer Health Professions Education Program, designing enrichment experiences for college students exploring health careers.
Across the medical school, she facilitates small group and problem-based learning for first- and second-year students, precepts residents and fellows two to three half-days per week, and delivers recurring lectures on LGBTQ+ health care, AI in medicine, lower extremity imaging, and work-life integration. She co-coordinates the annual Football Sideline Preparation Course, a multi-specialty conference for residents, athletic trainers, and community members. Her commitment to mentorship is reflected in her faculty mentoring role within the Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine, her advisorship of the AAMPS and GEMS pipeline programs, and her work with the We Got Next Mentoring Program and White Coats for Wishes. Dr. Richardson has been recognized for her teaching with the Outstanding Faculty Award from the Family Medicine Residency Program (2020) and the Exemplary Teaching Award for Full-Time Faculty from the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians (2022).
