Dr. Caroline C. Sheffield is an associate professor of social studies education at the University of Louisville. Her research centers on the intersection of multimodal literacy and disciplinary literacy in the social studies. Specifically, her research has focused on the use of graphic novels and picture books to engage students in inquiry learning and disciplinary thinking and literacy in the social studies. She has published research and practitioner-oriented articles in social studies education, literacy, middle grades, and teacher education journals. Dr. Sheffield was a Fulbright Specialist to Latvia in the summer of 2023. She also serves as a co-editor of the Kentucky Council of Social Studies’ official journal, Social Studies Teaching and Learning.
