I have the expertise, leadership, training, expertise and motivation necessary to successfully carry out the proposed project In regards to scholarly activities I have been Co-Director of the Nantucket Retina Meeting for the past twenty-five years.  I am a Scientific Reviewer for Ophthalmology, The Archives of Ophthalmology, The American Journal of Ophthalmology & Current Eye Research.  I was an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2013.  I was President of the Retina Society and have been on the Program Committee for the last six years.  I have also been Meeting Planning Chairman for the Macula Society and been on the Executive Committee of the Macula Society.  I was visiting professor at Yale University in 2013 and Visiting Professor in the outreach programs of the World Eye Mission at the University of Hatti and the Department of Ophthalmology at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology Trujillo, Peru in 2013.  In August of 2014 I participated with the Moran Outreach Program in Salamá Guatemala.  I am Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Printing House for the Blind, a non-profit organization with over 300 employees in Louisville, KY.  I am currently on the Board of Trustees of the JB Speed Art Museum. In the last five years I have made over 35 presentations at national meetings, including presentations at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Retina Society, The Macula Society, ARVO, The Pine Ridge Eye Study Club and the Nantucket Retina Meeting.  I have been a delegate/councilor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s national council meeting.  I have been a delegate to the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Ophthalmic Leadership Group meeting for the last five years and President of the Kentucky Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.  I retired from the Board of Directors of OphthPac, the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s political action group in 2012.
