Dr. Dan Han is a faculty of Mathematics at the University of Louisville, where she works at the interface of probability theory, stochastic processes, and applied statistical modeling. Trained as a probabilist and statistician, Dr. Han’s expertise spans nonlocal operators, random media, branching processes, and modern Bayesian methods for complex data. Her work is interdisciplinary, connecting core mathematical theory with applications in public health, environmental science, social networks, finance, and related areas.

Dr. Han’s research spans three primary areas: stochastic dynamics in disordered and nonlocal environments, quantitative finance, and modern statistical modeling. In the first, she studies random operators, Lyapunov exponents, branching processes in random media, and intermittency phenomena in Parabolic Anderson–type and kinetic dynamo models. In the second, she analyzes exponential functionals of Brownian motion and structural models for credit risk and bond pricing. In the third, she develops Bayesian hierarchical and dynamic lag models, spatiotemporal methods for underreported epidemic data, and network models such as ERGMs. Her work has benefited from externally funded collaborations, including projects supported by the National Science Foundation and the Simons Foundation, and has been featured in special issues and thematic collections across mathematics, statistics, and epidemiology.

In addition to her research, Dr. Han is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She regularly teaches courses in probability, statistics, and stochastic processes, supervises Ph.D. and M.A. students on mathematically and computationally intensive projects, and collaborates with colleagues in mathematics, public health, physics, and the environmental sciences.
