Elizabeth Kimbell’s teaching career, which began at University of Louisville in 1999, is marked by innovation, intentionality and continuous improvement. She pioneered the transition of the traditional public speaking course to online formats, beginning with the first hybrid course at UofL in 2004. Maintaining the integrity of public speaking taught online is an on-going process and in 2024 she launched Speaking Virtually, a course intentionally designed for the fully online environment. Her approach stays grounded in quality instructional design, supported by ongoing training and leadership, including her role on UofL’s first online policy committee in 2019, where she advocated for rigorous standards and equitable student experiences.
