Professor Enid Trucios-Haynes is the Bernard Flexner Chair and Professor of Law at Brandeis Law. A nationally recognized scholar in immigration law, she has more than 30 years of experience in the field. She teaches constitutional law, immigration law, international law, and international human rights law, with her scholarship focusing on constitutional rights, immigration, and issues affecting Latino/a/x communities.

At Brandeis Law, Professor Trucios-Haynes has been a pioneer in experiential learning and public service. She founded and directed the school’s Immigration Mini-Clinic (1998–2000), and directed a public service placement through the Samuel L. Greenebaum Public Service Program, leading  “Know Your Rights�� programs and monthly visits to immigration detention facilities (2011 to 2020). She is the Director of the Human Rights Advocacy Program, established in 2014 to advance immigrant, noncitizen and refugee rights, and the law school’s Immigration Externship. From 2004 to 2007, she served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

Beyond Brandeis Law, she was the Director of the Muhammad Ali Institute for Peace and Justice (2014-2023), including the Muhammad Ali Scholars Program and several social justice research initiatives. She served as the co-principal investigator of a 21st Century Research Innovation Grant establishing the Cooperative Consortium for Transdisciplinary Social Justice Research in 2017 to fund and support community engaged social justice research teams across disciplines. She was Co-Director of the Consortium from 2017-2025.

Her legal career began in New York with Rosenman & Colin (now Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP) and Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy LLP, the world’s largest immigration law firm, where she represented Fortune 500 companies and high-profile clients, including Paul McCartney and his band during his 1992 world tour.

Professor Trucios-Haynes has held numerous leadership roles at the University of Louisville, including Chair of the Faculty Senate and University Trustee (2016–2018). She currently serves as the Faculty Grievance Officer since 2023 and from 2010–2016. In the community, she has served on the Metro Louisville Ethics Commission (2011-2015), is past President of the ACLU of Kentucky Board of Directors (2013–2016), and past Chair of the Kentucky State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission (2020-22). She is the Chair of La Casita Center Board of Directors, serving on the board since 2016, and Co-President of the Hispanic-Latino Coalition of Louisville. Professor Trucios-Haynes remains deeply engaged in immigrant rights advocacy.

Her scholarship and service have earned numerous honors, including the University of Louisville Distinguished Career of Service Award (2020), the Inaugural Daniel M. Alvarez Champion for Justice Award from the Louisville Bar Association (2018), the Richard and Constance Lewis Fellows Award (2012), the Award for Exemplary Multicultural Teaching (2001), the Brandeis Law Alumni Teaching Excellence Award (2001), and the Ann Oldfather Fellowship for Public Service (1998). As co-director of HRAP, she was co-recipient of the Exemplary Designation Award from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Awards (2017) for generating scholarship that responds to the urgent need for legal outreach in the undocumented immigrant community.

She earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she was an Associate Editor of the Stanford Law Review, co-president of Women of Stanford Law, and an active member of the Latino Law Students Association.
