Dr. Faisal Aqlan is an Associate Professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering and Director of the Master of Engineering Management programs at the University of Louisville (UofL). He also serves as Co-director of UofL’s EDA Center for Organizational Readiness toward Enterprise 4.0, Director of the Center for Human Systems Engineering (CHSE), and Director of the Beyond Reality Center (BRC).

Dr. Aqlan earned his Ph.D. in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Binghamton University in 2013, following his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2007 and 2010, respectively. Before joining UofL, he worked at Penn State University, University of New Haven, IBM Corporation, and Innovation Associates Company. He is a senior member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), where he served as Vice President of Student Development and as a member of the IISE Board of Trustees from 2020 to 2024. He is also active in the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), serving as Chair of the ASEE Manufacturing Division. In addition, Dr. Aqlan is a member of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) and serves as the faculty advisor for UofL’s ASEM student chapter.

Dr. Aqlan has received numerous awards recognizing his excellence in teaching, research, and innovation, and was selected as a 40 Under 40 honoree by Erie Reader in 2019. His teaching interests include Manufacturing Systems, Product Design, Quality Control, Applied Statistics, Design of Experiments, Facilities Planning, Engineering Analytics, Simulation, and Lean Six Sigma. His research focuses on advancing human-centered intelligent systems through artificial intelligence, simulation, extended reality, digital twins, and physiological sensing. He designs innovative solutions that enhance efficiency, safety, and decision-making across manufacturing, healthcare, and community-scale systems. His work is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Economic Development Administration (EDA), the Engineering Information Foundation (EiF), and several industry partners.
