Dr. AlMakadma joined the faculty in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Communicative Disorders in 2017.  He graduated from Syracuse University where he earned a Ph.D. in Audiology '17, and a clinical doctorate of audiology (Au.D.) '11.

Dr. AlMakadma's coursework includes Auditory Anatomy and Physiology, Electrophysiologic Techniques in Audiology. He also engages in course development and course instruction in a variety of other topics, including amplification, diagnostics, and professional issues. His areas of expertise include otoacoustic emissions, wideband acoustic immittance, and early hearing detection and intervention. He has an established program in clinical and translational research focused on hearing assessments in newborns and infants, and on improving differential diagnosis in adult otologic cases.

As the director of the Newborn Hearing Screening program at UofL Hospital, since 2022, Dr. AlMakadma pursues professional interests in innovative program development, policy and management.
