Dr. Housam Aldeen Sarakbi, MD, FACR, RhMSUS, is the Chief of the Division of Rheumatology and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, a position he has held since June 2024. He previously served as the program director for the Rheumatology Fellowship at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and as the Division Chief and Program Director for the Rheumatology Fellowship at Hamad Medical Center in Qatar. With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Sarakbi has maintained a strong focus on teaching and research throughout his career.

Dr. Sarakbi is widely recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise in musculoskeletal ultrasound. He currently serves as the Chair of the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Oversight Committee with the American College of Rheumatology, a committee responsible for the certification of musculoskeletal ultrasound, also known as RhMSUS. He has been a speaker and trainer at both national and international musculoskeletal ultrasound conferences.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Sarakbi is the President of the Arab American Rheumatology Society, a relatively new organization with over 110 members both in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Sarakbi’s primary research interests lie in lupus and other connective tissue diseases, as well as spondyloarthropathies.
