James Franciosi, M.D., is a Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Norton Children’s Medical Group in Louisville, Kentucky. He joined the University of Louisville in 2024 and has clinical and academic interests in education, quality improvement, patient-reported outcomes, eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs), and functional abdominal pain disorders (FAPDs).

Dr. Franciosi’s clinical work spans general gastroenterology and hepatology, eosinophilic esophagitis, aerodigestive, and endoscopy. He is advancing division-wide quality improvement through evidence-based outcomes research. His efforts emphasize care coordination, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered approaches, which contribute to the rapid growth of the program.

Dr. Franciosi completed his B.S. at Marquette University (1996) and earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin (2001). He received an M.S.C.E. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. His training includes Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) (2005), as well as fellowship training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at CHOP (2008). He is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology and is an active mentor through the NASPGHAN Teaching and Tomorrow Program.

Outside of his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Franciosi enjoys spending time with friends and family. He is committed to providing exceptional healthcare for children, advancing innovative treatments for EGIDs and FAPDs, and training the next generation of pediatric gastroenterology providers.
