Dr. John Berkenbosch is a Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Louisville and an attending physician in the "Just For Kids" Critical Care Center at Norton Children's Hospital. He received his MD degree from the University of Calgary School of Medicine in 1993. He then completed a residency in General Pediatrics at the University of Alberta in 1996 and a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Montreal Children's Hospital/McGill University in 1999. He joined the Pediatric Critical Care Division at the University of Louisville in 2004. In addition to his role as a pediatric intensivist, Dr. Berkenbosch has developed special interests in sedation, analgesia, and delirium in critically ill pediatric patients and co-chaired the Society of Critical Care Medicine-supported Peds-PANDEM guidelines which address comfort provision in the critically ill child. He has numerous publications, many of which are related to sedation and analgesia in PICU patients and during procedura sedation. He has additionally co-edited a book on sedation and analgesia for pediatric intensivists. Dr. Berkenbosch is a member of the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He also serves on the Editorial boards of several Critical Care-based journals, including Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
