Karen Krigger MD MEd FAAFP AAHIV (S) is a Professor in the Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Director of Health Equity for the Health Sciences Campus University of Louisville in the Health Sciences Office of Health Equity and Engagement, and an Endowed Chair Urban Policy for the Foundation of Healthy Kentucky, University of Louisville. From 2013-2018,  she was Co-Director of the Southeast Division of the American Academy of HIV Medicine  and a member  American Academy of HIV Medicine National Board.

A Louisville native, Dr. Krigger received her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Education, and Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Louisville (UL). Completing a family medicine residency at UL School of Medicine (SOM), she joined UL faculty in 1992 starting an HIV clinic, WINGS (Women and Children with HIV/ AIDS Nurtured by Gifts of Healing and Supportive Care) in 1995. In 1999, it became the 3^rd Ryan White HIV clinic in the state, currently known as the 550 Clinic.  She taught secondary science in the Jefferson County Public School system for 8 years before entering medical school.

            Dr. Krigger is credentialed in the American Academy of HIV Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians.  She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Medicine and has been credentialed as an HIV specialist since the beginning of the American Academy of HIV Medicine in 2002. In 2014, she became the Director of Health Equity for the Health Sciences Campus at the University of Louisville. In 2014 she received the University of Louisville President’s Distinguished Faculty Award. Since 2018, she has been the faculty lead for the student driven initiative “Compassion Clinic” at the University of Louisville providing chronic disease education, screening, and surveillance in underserved areas of Jefferson County.

Dr. Krigger has provided presentations to lay community and medical community locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally on HIV and primary care medicine for more than 35 years. Her clinical practice includes primary care services, HIV services, and HIV preventive services    at the University of Louisville Family Medicine Cardinal Station Office 215 Central Avenue Suite 100.  She has provided medical services for sexual abuse victims in the SANE (Sexual Abuse Nurse Examiners) program. Since 2018, she has produced and moderated the African American History Film Series with the Louisville Free Public Library. Over 300 University of Louisville faculty have participated in the series with guest panelists from Howard University, Drexel University, Spalding University, the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), Southern Poverty Law Center, the Bail Project, and many other national, state, and local colleges and organizations.
