Lea Kristin Parsley, MD joins the University of Louisville/ Norton Healthcare Genetics team after more than 25 years of experience as a pediatrician and clinical geneticist.  She transitioned from a Medical Director position with the Mercy Health Care team and University of Illinois in Rockford, IL.  She was formerly the Medical Director of Tallahassee Memorial Clinical Genetics Center and Assistant Professor/Pediatric Clerkship Director at Florida State University College of Medicine. She completed a clinical genetics and genomics fellowship at University Hospital/Children’s Colorado in Denver, Colorado. She attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine for her doctorate in medicine and the University of South Florida at All Children’s Hospital for her pediatric residency program. Dr. Parsley most recently served as a clinical research consultant/ clinician coordinator for the National BDSTEPS Study at the National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities with the CDC for the last 9 years.  She currently serves as primary faculty for PREP the CRAM for the American Academy of Pediatrics for pediatric residents certifying in general pediatrics. She previously served on the National Editorial Board for PREP SA Journals for the American Academy of Pediatrics.  She has extensive experience in curricular development in genetics and clinical research registry management focusing on birth defects and developmental disorders.

 

Both as an adoptive mother and as a physician, she has a special interest in children with complex special health care needs, foster/adoption medicine, and genetic disorders. Within her genetics specialty, she particularly enjoys pediatric dysmorphology, skeletal dysplasias, neuromuscular/ neurogenetics, and pediatric and adult cancer genetics. She truly believes in providing comprehensive care for the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of her complex patients through a collaborative environment with the healthcare team.
