My research focuses on the development, validation, and implementation of responsive speech-language and literacy assessments and interventions that promote meaningful participation and functional outcomes. Through the ROAR SLP Lab, I examine communication and literacy profiles across diverse populations, with particular attention to children who are culturally and linguistically diverse, living in poverty, have autism or other developmental disabilities, or who are experiencing systemic barriers to education and health care access. My work includes community-based participatory research with multilingual Jamaican preschoolers who speak Jamaican Creole (Patois), studies supporting educational access for children experiencing homelessness, and investigations of health literacy barriers among mothers who are survivors of domestic trafficking. Methodologically, my work integrates assessment psychometrics, validation science, telehealth assessment delivery, and neurobiological approaches, including postdoctoral research funded by an NIH R01 clinical trial using fMRI to examine treatment response in preschool children with developmental language disorder. Across projects, I emphasize the ICF framework to bridge impairment-level findings with activity, participation, and contextual factors.
