Dr. Yang received his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University in 2011, and M.S. in mechanical engineering from Tsinghua University in 2007. Between 2012 and 2013, he worked as testing engineer in B/E Aerospace, and took primary responsibilities of the establishment and daily operation of the life cycle testing group. Dr. Yang's primary research interests focus on the design aspects of structures and their realization via advanced manufacturing through integrated design methodology. He received the 2018 BASF 3D Print Design Competition 1st Prize, the 2016 International Outstanding Young Researcher in Freeform and Additive Manufacturing Award, 2012 Emerald Engineering Outstanding Doctoral Research Award in Additive Manufacturing, and 2007 3rd Grade Scholarship of Excellency in Tsinghua University. Dr. Yang is a member of IISE, SME, SAMPE, ACerS, AIST and ASM. He is also a member of Alpha Pi Mu.

Dr. Yang's current research interests focus on several areas:

1. Design of AM cellular and lightweight structures

2. Binder jetting process modeling and novel applications

3. AM supply chain operations

As of 2019, Dr. Yang has published a total of 52 publications, including 23 peer-reviewed journal publications, 36 conference publications and 3 book chapters. He is a frequent contributor to the research community through various professional services and activites, in the attempt to help facilitating the value realization of advanced manufacturing technologies.
