Professor Lisa H. Nicholson is the William Marshall Bullitt Chair in Business Law at Brandeis Law. She joined the faculty in 2000 after seven years of practice in securities and commercial litigation in New York. She served as a litigation associate with Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hayes & Handler LLP and as senior counsel in the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Her practice focused on securities regulation and commercial transactions, including investment suitability and fraud.

Professor Nicholson’s teaching and scholarship center on corporate law and securities regulation, with particular attention to the accountability of corporate actors and the professional responsibility of lawyers. Her work has appeared in journals including the Indiana Law Journal, Fordham Law Review, Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics, Maryland Law Review, University of Maryland Journal of Business & Technology Law, Michigan State Law Review and DePaul Business & Commercial Law Journal.

She has also taught as a visiting professor at several law schools, including Brooklyn Law School, Boston College Law School, the University of Richmond School of Law and DePaul University College of Law.

Active in community service, Professor Nicholson has worked with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, including its Economic Justice Committee and Vision Smoketown Project. She has also served on the Police Initiatives WorkGroup and the Implementation Team for Louisville’s Blueprint for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods.

Her teaching, scholarship and service were recognized with the University of Louisville’s Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Teaching Award, one of the institution’s highest academic honors. She currently serves on Brandeis Law’s Dean’s Advisory Committee and Economic Welfare Committee, is a member of the Legal Aid Society Board and is a commissioner of the Louisville Metro Housing Authority.
