Dr. Rothe's work—at the intersection of mixed-methods research in German Studies, Applied Linguistics, and Education—explores (stereotypical) perceptions of communities, approaches to engaging language programming, and teacher training frameworks.
In his previous publications, for instance, he investigated language learners’ and educators’ (stereotypical) perceptions of themselves and other world language speakers, including native speakers and teachers of German. As a Faculty Fellow of the Teaching Innovation Learning Lab at the University of Louisville, he recently developed a long-term virtual reality project that provided an equitable pathway for students to immerse themselves in the diversity of contemporary Germany.
His publications on diversifying curricula earned him the 2024 Stephen A. Freeman Award for Best Published Article about “teaching techniques to have appeared in a professional journal during the preceding year."
