TEACHING & MENTORING
Dr. Rothe has taught a variety of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses in the United States and Germany. Additionally, he served as a mentor for novice K-12 instructors and university-level educators in both countries. He also worked for the University of Wisconsin Collaborative Language Program to support online- and hybrid-course offerings and improve state-wide collaborations between smaller departments.
In collaboration with his colleagues at the University of Louisville, he has built a growing university program that promotes a sense of community, is grounded in diversity and equity principles, and adjusts teaching practices based on consistent feedback, reflections and evaluations.
In 2024/25, he works as a Faculty Affiliate of the university’s Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning. In this role, he offers in-person and online instructors at all ranks the opportunity to learn about and discuss evidence-based approaches, practices, and resources that contribute to students’ sense of community and belonging in a course, program, and the university.
For his innovative instruction and programming efforts, he received the university-wide TILL Teaching Innovation Award in 2023 and the 2024 Diversity Champion Award from the College of Arts and Sciences.
The German Special Interest Group of ACTFL recognized his scholarship, teaching, and service efforts at the University of Louisville with the 2025 Award for Outstanding German Program Development and Advocacy.
