As a PhD graduate from the University of Louisville, I am honored to build a framework of nursing research revolving around patient safety in high-risk sectors of healthcare. As a former perioperative nurse, I was able to experience the high-risk nature of the Operating Room (OR) and recognize how organizational and personal factors can set the stage for adverse events to occur. I recognize that the OR is a complex, information-intensive, multi-faceted, fast-paced environment that can increase the risk for adverse outcomes for patients. 

               Healthcare safety systems can often show weaknesses because of personnel behaviors and organizational cultural etiolation.  Therefore, systems require continuous attention and fortification. Our patients deserve to be safe, and I am passionate about working on their behalf continuously shining a spotlight on how we can maintain strong safety culture and high reliability.

      Over the past several years, I have become increasingly active in the community as an academic perioperative nurse. I have collaborated with clinical perioperative nurses in the community, and currently, beyond my role at the University of Louisville, I hold a role at Baptist Health Louisville as a consultant clinical educator, in which I have added my academic expertise to safe practices. In addition, I am privileged to serve as an active member of the local chapter of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), and I currently serve as president of my local chapter.
