PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Priest’s exhibitions include major solo, and group shows dedicated to the Underground Railroad. Priest’s paintings and drawings have been widely utilized beyond galleries, including in scholarly and educational contexts. Notably, an image by Priest was procured for the cover image for Scott Christianson’s book Freeing Charles Nalle: On the Eve of the Civil War, which explores the dramatic rescue of fugitive slave Charles Nalle in Troy, New York, a subject Priest has extensively researched and depicted in drawings, paintings and prints. Additionally, Priest's Harriet Tubman-themed works have been incorporated into African American history programs, reflecting his impact on cultural education. Also, Images from Priest’s Harriet Tubman series were acquired by the Maryland Parks Department for permanent exhibition at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitor Center. Further reinforcing his contribution to public history, Key artworks by Priest have been utilized for road markers in Maryland, serving as visual signposts that commemorate African American heritage.
