Marybeth Orton, ATR-BC, ACTS, ICST, LPAT-S, is a Licensed Professional Art Therapist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She received her master’s degree in Expressive Therapies from the University of Louisville in 1993, specializing in art therapy with groups and grief/trauma. Since that time, she has pursued certifications in Havening Techniques, EMDR therapy, Sandtray therapy and PEAT. She utilizes these modalities in her private practice along with Animal Assisted Therapy/Interventions, play therapy, MARI, and Level II Reiki, among others.

Marybeth worked for over 13 years at one of the largest nonprofit psychiatric hospitals in the country, where she utilized art therapy with all ages. She introduced a pet therapy program there in early 2000. At the hospital, she also supervised graduate level art therapy interns. For a time, she was employed full time at the hospital, part time at her private practice and taught the Clinical Art Therapy courses at U of L. In 2006, she left the hospital to become the Clinical Coordinator/Lecturer of the Art Therapy Program at U of L, where she worked until May 2024 when she became the Program Director of Art Therapy Department. She continues to maintain a small private practice where she works with trauma survivors of all ages.
