Dr. Matthew Black received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, cum laude, from Transylvania University in 2004, and graduated with his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Louisville in 2010. He completed his General Surgery residency and a research fellowship in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Louisville. He went on to complete a residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery and a fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. 

Dr. Black is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UofL. He also serves as the Director of Thoracic Robotic Surgery, as Faculty Liaison for the Cardiothoracic Student Interest Group, and on the Faculty Senate.
