Mercia Bezerra Gondim is originally from Natal/Brazil, and graduated from the Rio Grande do Norte Federal University. She completed neurosurgery residency in Brazil and pediatric neurosurgery fellowship in the Necker Enfants Malades Hospital, France.  As pediatric neurosurgeon attending in Brazil, she implemented several procedures and helped in treating rare and complicated cases. Also as a member of a multidisciplinary team, she founded a local Association for Children with Myelomeningocele and Hydrocephalus. Thanks to this organization, they achieved many improvements in public welfare.

At the US, she completed her Anatomic Pathology residency training at Indiana University, and pursued fellowship training in multiple specialties. Dr. Gondim is a board-certified Anatomic Pathologist, Pediatric Pathologist, and Neuropathologist, and fellowship trained GI and liver pathologist. In Louisville, she initially joined the Department of Pathology at Norton Children’s Hospital. She is now an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Univerity of Louisville.
