Michelle Baxter, DNP, MSN, APRN, AGNP-C, AFAAOM, PhD(c)

Michelle Baxter is an Assistant Professor at The University of Louisville School of Dentistry, Department of Diagnosis and Oral Health, and the School of Nursing in Louisville, KY.

Dr. Baxter’s professional interests are Oral Medicine and the relationship between oral health and whole-body health. Her DNP project, Expediting dental treatment for patients with diabetes mellitus in a university-based dental clinic, focused on the bidirectional relationship between diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease. Her PhD dissertation focuses on the relationship between mental health, social support, health literacy, and oral health outcomes.

She completed the Duke University Nurse Leadership Fellowship Program in 2018. She conducted a transformational leadership project, Frequency and Category of Medical Complexities Resulting in Delay of Dental Treatment and the Impact of an Integrated Medical-Dental Clinic.

She is an Academic Affiliate Fellow with the American Academy of Oral Medicine, where she also serves as co-chair of the Academic Affiliate Fellowship Program Committee and co-author of the Affiliate Fellowship Exam.
