As an award-winning teacher and published scholar with a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, Dr. Wu is dedicated to helping students learn about China—its language, people, and culture—and to fostering cross-cultural exchanges. With over 20 years of experience since she began teaching Chinese as a second language in 2000, she has taught students at all levels from more than fifty countries in both American and Chinese universities. In her classes, Dr. Wu emphasizes not only language proficiency but also cultural awareness. She has also lectured on various aspects of Chinese culture.
 
Dr. Wu believes that, with effective teaching approaches, Chinese language acquisition is not difficult. She integrates communicative and immersive techniques that prioritize real-world usage, helping students gain confidence and fluency. Dr. Wu also incorporates multimedia resources, interactive activities, and culturally relevant examples to make the language accessible and engaging. By creating a supportive and dynamic learning environment, she empowers her students to not only learn the language but also to appreciate the deeper cultural context behind it.
 
Throughout her career, Dr. Wu has expanded her commitment to education by “teaching teachers.” She has taught courses for both undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language and has delivered demo classes—some of which were videotaped—to train new teachers. Additionally, she has been invited to give lectures on pedagogy to Chinese teachers worldwide through an online teaching platform.
