TEACHING & MENTORING

My teaching philosophy centers on learner empowerment and strategic methodological integration (Comprehensible Input, CLT) to foster intrinsic motivation. I believe that effective teaching should aim to delight as well as instruct (the classical principle of dulce et utile), making learning fun, engaging, and relevant.

I am a strong proponent of asynchronous online learning, leveraging digital tools to maximize student flexibility, autonomy, and engagement outside of traditional synchronous settings. My methodology frequently integrates my background in theatre (acting, directing, and dramaturgy) through the use of short theatrical skits and dramatic role-play to build communicative competence and enhance student confidence. I instruct all levels of Spanish (language, literature, culture, film, and writing) and specialize in advanced culture and professional Spanish courses, including the newly developed "Intro to Spanish for HealthCare Workers" course at the University of Louisville.

While at Bellarmine University, I mentored students in advanced research, including supervising Honors Theses for two Fulbright winners. I also have extensive experience promoting international education, having served as the Director for the KIIS June program in Segovia, Spain (June 2013–2022).
