I have 20 years of experience conducting mental and behavioral health intervention research. My work has been funded by numerous federal agencies, including the NIH, SAMHSA, CDC, HRSA, and DOJ . Currently, I have three parallel lines of research in psychiatric epidemiology, harm reduction, and social determinants of health (SDOH). My psychiatric epidemiology research focuses on population health approaches to addressing eating disorders. As part of this work, I am a Principal Scientist in UofL's Eating Anxiety Treatment Laboratory and Chair of the Research Subcommittee for the Kentucky Eating Disorder Council. My harm reduction research focuses on implementing novel self-testing interventions in non-clinical settings for people who inject drugs (PWID). I recently completed a 2-year project called the Live HIV Free Initiative to address the HIV epidemic in Louisville Metro through HIV self-testing interventions for PWID. I am now a Senior Advisor on two NIH studies investigating outcomes related to xylazine adulteration and soft tissue infections among PWID. For my SDOH work, I am the Scientific Lead of a quality improvement program through Abbott Laboratories' Diversity in Clinical Trials Initiative to improve representation in clinical research studies and increase documentation of SDOH in clinical care.
