I am a clinician-scientist dedicated to unraveling the complex mechanisms of chemoradiation-induced dysphagia (swallow impairment). I earned my master's in speech-language pathology from the University of Central Florida and my doctorate in laryngeal immunology and bioengineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I also completed post-doctoral training in neurophysiology at the University of Louisville. My NIH-supported research seeks to bridge the gap between cancer treatment and recovery by identifying how injury-induced swallowing disorders develop, ultimately targeting potential interventions to prevent or manage these conditions. To achieve this, my laboratory investigates the effects of head and neck cancer treatments, such as radiation and chemotherapy, on muscle and nerve function and their subsequent impact on swallowing and eating.
