BIO

The focus of my laboratory is to develop a mechanistic understanding of causes for cardiovascular diseases and translate these findings to improve the outcome in affected populations. Specifically, we aim to identify the triggers of innate and adaptive immune responses during heart failure reduced and preserved ejection fraction. We are also investigating how shifts in skeletal muscle metabolism contribute to exercise intolerance during heart failure. Building on the findings from our laboratory, we are conducting a Phase II clinical trial examining whether  supplementation of food constitutents such as carnosine, could improve the walking ability of peripheral arterial disease patients.
