BIO
Dr. Banerjee earned his bachelor's degree in Physics from the California Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. degree from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Reseach in experimental particle physics measuring the strong coupling constant at the L3 expriment at the Large Electron Positron collider at CERN. For his postdoctoral experience he studied the physics of tau leptons at the BaBar experiment at the Positron Electron Project at the SLAC National Laboratory and ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadronic Collider at CERN. At the BaBar experiment, he obtained some of the most stringent limits on lepton flavor violation in tau and Upsilon decays, and measured the charge current lepton universality and Vus, the largest off-diagonal element of the quark mixing matrix. At the ATLAS experiment, he obtained the first evidence of Higgs boson decaying into a pair of tau leptons and searched for lepton flavor violating decays of the Higgs Boson. He is currently searching for lepton flavor violation and dark sector candidates at the Belle II experiment at the Japanese National Laboratory for High Energy Physics called the KEK. He is convenor of the Physics Modeling and Event Generators group and Slow Control System coordinator for the Klong and Muon detector at the Belle II experiment. He is a coconvenor for the tau subgroup of the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group and a co-author of the review section of tau branching fractions for the Particle Data Group published bi-annually in the Reviews of Particle Physics.
