I am an Associate Professor of U.S. and the World. Building on my background as a human rights activist and attorney, my research and teaching approach embraces several themes: religious and political identity, social movements, war and protest, gender, human rights, and law. My first book, Reagan’s Gun-Toting Nuns: The Catholic Conflict Over Cold War Human Rights Policy in Central America, won the Juan E. Mendez Award and the John Gilmary Shea Prize. My work has appeared in scholarly journals and popular press outlets. My current project is Confrontational Humanitarians: Doctors, Children’s Health, & U.S. Harm in Vietnam.
