Thomas M. Dykes, M.D., is the Dr. Arvin and Beverly Robinson-Furman Family Endowed Chair in the department of radiology, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center El Paso.  Prior to his appointment at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Dr. Dykes was the vice-chair for clinical affairs for 14 years at Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania.  Dr. Dykes also served in the United States Air Force for twenty-one years serving in numerous leadership capacities including chief of diagnostic radiology, Wilford Hall Medical Center and radiology residency program director for the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium.  Dr. Dykes retired from the Air Force at the rank of Colonel in 2005.

Dr. Dykes received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1984 where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpho Honor Medical Society.  He completed diagnostic radiology residency at the University of California San Francisco, San Francisco, California.  He is certified by the American Board of Radiology and has served on numerous committees with the ABR receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award having served as chair of the genitourinary exam committee for ongoing learning assessment (OLA) with the ABR until 2023. Dr. Dykes is also a fellow of the Society of Abdominal Radiology and fellow of the American College of Radiology, an honor achieved by ten percent of practicing radiologists.  Dr. Dykes has received training in leadership and management from the Radiology Leadership Institute (ACR), the Association of University Radiologists, Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments, and the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Dykes served twenty-one years in the United States Air Force serving as chief of medical imaging at Wilford Hall Medical Center and residency program director at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Care Consortium.  He retired at the rank of Colonel in 2005.  His post military service career includes 14 years at Penn State Health including service as vice chair for clinical affairs and 5 years as chair of radiology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso from 2019 to 2024.
