BIO
Thomas Hughes is a professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville. He holds a PhD from the University of Cincinnati and a JD from the University of Dayton. He is former Chair of the Department and former Director of the Southern Police Institute. His research has focused on evidence-based policing issues and Fourth Amendment issues in policing. He has instructed a wide range of courses while at the University of Louisville focusing primarily on policing and legal issues. Dr. Hughes has presented research in a wide variety of contexts both nationally and internationally. Dr. Hughes has also frequently participated in police training events designed to foster evidence-based practice. He served on a variety of police promotion boards and was a member of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Counsel for five years.
