My research has two areas of focus. On one hand, I believe that rhetoric can serve a useful perspective for understanding and unpacking perceived economic realities and, in turn, the economic as a relatively untapped area to theorize rhetorical action (relative to, say, rhetoric’s traditional relationship to political or communicative systems). I think this helps students and societies pause, even briefly, on some of the "whys" and "hows" of work, of resource and value distribution, and of bigger question about things like corporate influence.
On the other hand, as a writing center director, I'm part of a team of folks trying to figure out questions like how to adjust to the changing demands of STEM writers, how to maintain healthy cultures of writing in the face of AI and pushes for relentless austerity/efficiency.
