Dr. Vatsalya is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at UofL, Louisville, KY. His primary position is with the Div. of Gastro. Hepatol. and Nutrition.  He is affiliated with the VA Robley Rex Medical Center as a clinical scientist. He is a licensed addiction specialist in the state. He is a physician-scientist, and his primary role is to support liver patients with their mental health conditions. He is a PI on a few medication trials, funded both institutionally and federally, including those funded by the National Institutes of Health. He has developed novel clinical paradigms to assess treatment efficacy in sick and severely ill patient populations. He has a novel drug registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office. He was also in a group that developed the WHO's ICD 11 code for alcohol hangover. He has his independent clinical research lab and has several clinical publications in high-impact and prestigious journals (including the Red Journal). He mentors several residents, fellows, and medical students. He has written several book chapters and has performed pioneering work in developing the clinical presentation of early-stage Alcohol-associated Liver Disease by carrying out numerous prospective clinical studies. He has also been involved in developing a precision algorithm for the survivability of severe Alcohol-Associated hepatitis patients. He is an ex-chair of the communication committee of the apex global organization in alcohol research, ISBRA. He is chair of the Education Committee of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology. He is a board member of various scientific, intramural, and professional organizations. Presently, he serves in several committees extramurally, both for clinical-professional and research-based societies and organizations.
