Wei Wang, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Louisville, as well as a fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon and uveitis specialist. She specializes in advanced vitreoretinal surgery and the management of complex retinal and uveitic diseases. Her clinical expertise includes age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, hereditary retinal disorders, and other complex retinal pathologies, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of uveitis. In her surgical practice, Dr. Wang treats a broad range of retinal conditions, including retinal detachment, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and other disorders of the posterior segment. She serves as Vitreoretinal Fellowship Program Director and Medical Students Education Director, with a strong commitment to training future retina specialists and educating medical students in ophthalmology. Her research focuses on retinal regeneration, photoreceptor metabolism, retinal prosthesis, artificial intelligence in retinal disease, and translational research using animal models to develop innovative therapies for retinal disorders. Dr. Wang is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Uveitis Society, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and Women in Ophthalmology.
