Dr. Wei Zhang has served as a Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Louisville since July 2019. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 2003. Dr. Zhang began his academic career at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2003–2010) as an Assistant and then Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He later joined Virginia Commonwealth University, where he served as Associate Professor (2010–2014) and Professor (2014–2019) before moving to the University of Louisville. His research interests span computer architecture, compilers, real-time computing, and hardware and AI security. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and secured extensive research funding from both government and industry sources. He has served as Principal Investigator (PI) on 11 NSF grants, including a recent $3.4 million NSF CyberCorps®: Scholarship for Service (SFS) award that established the first and only SFS program in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
