Professor Will Hilyerd teaches legal research at the Brandeis School of Law, where he has served on the faculty since 2002. He also teaches advanced legal research and computers and the law.

Professor Hilyerd earned his J.D., M.B.A. and B.S.B.A. from the University of Louisville and his M.L.S. from the University of Kentucky. He has been licensed to practice law in Kentucky since 1996.

He began his career with the Legal Aid Society in Louisville before joining the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy (DPA) as head librarian in 1997. He was promoted to information resources branch manager in 2002, overseeing both the library and information technology department. While at DPA, he regularly trained attorneys and prison legal aides in legal research and contributed bibliographies to The Advocate, DPA’s professional journal.

Since returning to UofL, Professor Hilyerd has published scholarship on legal research and taught numerous continuing legal education courses. His work bridges legal practice and education, helping students and professionals strengthen the skills needed to access and analyze legal information effectively.
