SPONSORED PROJECTS

Dr. Nong leads the Physiology Core in the Center for Cardiometabolic Science. The mission of the Core is to develop and implement in vivo models to support the research needs of investigators on campus. We perform a growing list of surgeries and cardiac function measurements on small animals.

Animal Models

  • Myocardial infarction (MI) with/without reperfusion
  • Transverse aortic constriction (TAC)
  • Apical resection on neonatal mouse
  • Intracardiac and intraventricular administrations of test substances/cells/virus (Echo-guided/Open-chest)
  • Vascular anastomosis
  • Splenic transplantation
  • ECG/EEG/EMG telemetry implants

We also provide consultation on new animal model development.

Cardiac Function Measurements

  • Conventional echocardiography: M-mode, B-mode, Doppler and strain analysis
  • 3D and 4D echocardiography
  • Contrast ultrasound, especially using microbubble as contrast agent to measure blood flow in the heart and other organs
  • Pressure-volume loops
  • Electrophysiology study and cardiac pacing

In addition to measuring cardiac functions by individual method listed above, we are proud to provide integrative measurements, such as contrast echo blood flow + PV loops, cardiac pacing + PV loops, to better support the cutting-edge research needs.
